Who knew that Alexis Badden Mayer of the Organic Consumers Association would be arrested outside the White House when she attempted to deliver a DVD Petition with over 200,000 names asking Michelle Obama to ask her husband to fulfill a campaign promise to label GMO food products?
There is no more basic American right, than to petition the government, to speak up and have your voice heard as a citizen by your elected representatives – but not if you don’t have the money to buy access to officials who have become more responsive to the interest groups that finance their elections then the people who elected them. And so it was with the petition that called for the truthful labeling of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). People want to know what they are eating and want food labeling to indicate if the food has been genetically modified.
In this Instant Film, the story gets sidetracked when a couple of Jewish “missionaries” coincidentally roll up at the White House and ask to see the President, then perform the Jewish Tefillin ritual which consists of strapping a small box containing Torah verses to the head and arm of Adam Eidinger, one of demonstrators. While Adam is strapped he begins whispering about how GMO foods are not Kosher and how the insecticides, genetically engineered into corn, are killing the bees. All this does not go unnoticed by the uniformed Secret Service, who become increasingly impatient, with a demonstration, now blocking an entrance, that seems to be spiraling out of control. Instead of arresting those blocking the entrance, they arrest the person trying to deliver the petitions, Alexis Baden-Mayer from the Organic Consumers Association.

Proof of “Big Brother”, Police State and the insanity that invades/pervades the US nation.
This sort of absurd behaviour is allowed to go on without media coverage and without public uproar.
An arrest of a citizen who is completely innocent of any crime, representing thousands of rightfully concerned citizens, all, it appears, within their legal and constitutional rights to petition the government.
One more incident, one of many that prove there is serious deterioration in the respect for US citizens by the authorities. More than serious, I guess, because ‘none’, ie no respect, even ‘disrespect, would be a more appropriate description.
Strange how they get away with this.
The arresting police must realize there has been no crime committed, I wonder how they actually feel themselves, if they do feel at all?
Should they keep in mind that war criminals do not escape justice by pleading they were just doing as ordered?
Although they have a choice, it undoubtedly would cost them their job to not carry out orders, there lies the rub! What a choice, justice or your job?
GIven that they themselves are supposed to be the guardians of justice, this is indeed a paradox.
Strange how even those of the public in the know, including the press, have lost their way, and placidly accept tyranny.
So sad!
Slightly, I suppose, off track, mentioning police when they were security officials. But I think pretty much accurate assessment. She was not blocking the gate but was arrested, not the others.
Blocking the gate considered a crime “in case there was an emergency” is a pathetic excuse. Blocking the gate during an emergency might be an excuse.
Of course the real crime is the non-acceptance of the petition.
Another is Obama’s election promise to enforce food labelling legislation and clearly that was a lie. In itself a lie may not be a serious issue (and who is stupid enough to believe an election promise?).
But when this particular promise involves the health and well-being of his beloved country’s (sarc) citizens – there-in lies the crime!

I watched this entire interview, I don’t think the lass did any thing wrong, however I do believe she forgot to go through correct channels and procedures.
