Over 6,000 pounds of food per year, on 1/10 acre located just 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. The Dervaes family grows over 400 species of plants, 4,300 pounds of vegetable food, 900 chicken and 1,000 duck eggs, 25 lbs of honey, plus seasonal fruits throughout the year.
From 1/10th of an acre, four people manage to get over 90% of their daily food and the family reports earnings of $20,000 per year (AFTER they eat from what is produced). This is done without the use of the expensive & destructive synthetic chemicals associated with industrial mono-cropping, while simultaneously improving the fertility and overall condition of the land being used to grow this food on. Scaled up to an acre, that would equal $200,000 per year!

My apologies if I offended anyone by my descriptive comment. Some people I feel deserve to be cussed out. We receive many comments and emails like John’s. Most we just delete. His was so stupid I felt he deserve the same in return.
How it has always been. If you have a farm, you have to have the right and the means to defend it.
Thanks for your comment m_astera. I don’t think John has the mental capacity to think through what owning a farm is about or much of anything else. Obviously he didn’t view the video either or he would have understood what was happening with these folks.

Shut up and grow some food…
We are in year two of our 1-acre farm in northern Arizona (Prescott). Last year we did well even though it was our first growing season. We have perhaps 5,000 square feet of actual growing beds (not counting paths, greenhouse, etc.). We didn’t keep track of pounds of food out but we are still eating the jarred tomato sauces from last summer’s crops. I was amazed how much food we got out that first year. This winter I have been busy building more fences, more beds, installing water cisterns to catch the rain, I built a chicken coup and will have ten hens this year. This year I will also build “crawling walls” for the tomatoes, melons, peas, and the like thus will likely increase yields. We have a well on our property that gives us all the water we need. At this point it is labor in, food out, with perhaps $500 or so of materials. I build most things out of recycled/re-used (ie. someone elses garbage) materials.
Thank you for these open postings – the video was out first and the rest is history, for once real and good enough for anyone to eat. I acknowledge the catepillar, so I can enjoy the butterfly. “Mundraub” is not necessarily illegal, but it for sure is more sustaining to grow the stuff yourself. Even hemp, without thc is a great nutrient – Henry Ford used it for his first round of cars, until the steel lobby dug-in. Hemp is actually useful as food, fuel and fun – all natural!

These folks are the kind of people who so thoroughly inspire me to do what I am doing on my piece of dirt. I look around and see maybe 0.1% of people putting their hands in the dirt, nourishing the soil, and growing some food for themselves in any significant way.
